Lillian. An absolute GEM of a human being. We will remember her dry sense of humor, her wicked intellect, her generous spirit, and her forever friendship. As our mom’s BFF, she provided companionship, friendship, and joie du vivre! She led the Aging and Saging group, the memoir group, and participated in endless activities; theatre, dinners, lunches, celebrations, and poolside playtime. I even interviewed her for a client work project where I needed college administrators/instructors! Lillian was an authentic human being who shared herself and encouraged other to share their true self. Every member of our family — our mom, my sisters, our spouses/significant others, our (now adult) children — all have nothing but happy memories of times with Lillian. We will carry the gifts she imparted on us and pass them forward. Her legacy lives on.
One of my favorite stories. I had gone through a divorce in my 40’s and I was commiserating with Lillian. I told her of my first experiences on the Match.com app and was half expecting her to roll her eyes at this new generational way of meeting potential mates. No roll eye. In fact, Lillian told me she too was on the app! It inspired me to look at the older generation who was on the app — and because you can see who viewed your profile — suddenly I had several 70+ year old men contacting me because I “looked” at them. Hilarious experience, but also one of the many ways Lillian opened my eyes to my own bias. Of COURSE, single people at their age used that app! Thank you Lillian for making me laugh, learn, grow, and live a fuller life.
