Tuesdays at 11am

I had the joy of being Lillian’s “Ed McMahon” sidekick on ZOOM during the pandemic’s shelter in place and beyond.

Lillian was the highlight and beacon on light for a dozen lonely housebound women over 60 every Tuesday at 11am. It was the first discussion group on Zoom for Peninsula Family Service and I was her staff support person. She opened up my work from home life too. 11am was a little early for Lillian but she pulled herself out of bed and it was time for ice breakers, check ins and topic of the week.

But most importantly we laughed a lot and didn’t feel lonely for one hour.

Afternoons were memoir writing workshops and facilitators meet ups. This routine went on for years.

Even after I left my position with the agency we would meet for lunch or poolside at Woodlake to watch the kids swim.

I cherish her mentorship and friendship. I feel so lucky to have known her. Her spirit will always be with me.
